I am now leaving the enclave of Srebrenica. I’m totally optimistic that things will improve here. I would not be leaving if I thought otherwise. I will come back here in a few days on a regular basis because, willingly or not, I consider this city as my city now.

A ceasefire has been agreed in Srebrenica. I’m confident this time that it’s a good one. For the previous ceasefire one of the sides wanted to continue fighting; the Bosnian presidency. Now President Izetbegović has asked for the cessation of hostilities, I am optimistic.

I am confident that the ceasefire will last. When I was last in Belgrade to see Milošević, I received an agreement.

Morillon has left some of his troops in Srebrenica – as a guarantee that he’ll be back, I guess. Srebrenica now has its first UNPROFOR soldiers: ten or so members of the general’s escorts plus a three-member team of UN Military Observers.

A food convoy has also entered the town, but the Chetnik offensive on Srebrenica is continuing, with even greater intensity. It’s like Mladić believes the UN will protect Srebrenica and wants to act before it happens.

Morillon has left Srebrenica. A part of his entourage and UN vehicles have stayed as a guarantee that Morillon will not abandon the people of Srebrenica
