Mum and sis have agreed to leave Srebrenica on the UN convoy.

I’ve just lifted Mum and sis onto the UN truck. They waved at me. I took a long look at them before I left. After a couple of seconds I turned back for another look, because I believe this might be the last time I ever see them. But the tarpaulin had already been put on.

Tears are gushing from my eyes […] I am on my own for the first time in my life, this is the first day of my adult life.

I’ve reached home, a home that is not mine anyway. I do not greet anyone – the house is empty, there is no one to greet anyway.
