🧵 Today I decided to try out my modest knowledge of English and talk to one of the UN soldiers. As a result, I’m now an interpreter for the UN.

On my way to the UN battalion’s entrance, I kept practising my English. I must have spent at least half an hour just standing across the road. I finally ventured to the other side . The guard was from Ontario.

Since I’m quite good at geography and did not dare ask for a job, we discussed lakes in Ontario. He was surprised someone from Srebrenica should know the names of a number of Canadian lakes. I’m surprised he found that surprising.

I’m being taken to the UN post office to be an interpreter.

My answer to the question of what stands between the people of Srebrenica and Serb guns is this: any further attack by Serb forces would be a declaration of war against the entire world.

Don’t be fooled by the UN’s touting of its “demilitarisation” of Srebrenica. The peripheral areas of the municipality remain under constant shell attacks, and even the central areas are shelled from time to time.
