Today I had a chilling conversation with my friend, Dževad. He said his dad told him that in Rwanda, UN troops have left people without protection and that he’s afraid that they will do the same thing in Srebrenica.

A few days ago I instructed the leader of the Srebrenica defense forces (28th Division of the Armija BiH) to leave Srebrenica. He was evacuated to Tuzla. We must now prepare to evacuate the population.

A friend of mine has told me that Naser Orić and 15 young officers from the 28th Division have been evacuated to Tuzla. I nearly collapsed when he did. Fear is welling up within me. I’m sobbing as I type this. It’s over. This is the end.
