We’ve left Srebrenica for Gornji Potočari village. Dad thinks we’ll be safer there.

We’ve returned to Srebrenica, which is in ruins. I think we’ve made a mistake. But we have nowhere else to go. Arkan’s men are still here. They shoot from their cars and honk their horns in celebration of what they’ve done. We don’t leave the apartment. We sometimes peek behind the curtains to see what’s going on.

I’m hanging out with the only Serb I know who’s stayed behind. He’s nice. We still have electricity so we can listen to the radio reports together, to figure out what’s happening. I feel like I’m living in the apocalypse.

My family has made a request to the ruling Serb authorities to allow us to leave Srebrenica. We can’t survive here.

Family and I have been “granted” deportation out of Srebrenica by Serb and JNA occupying forces. We’re on our way to be deported by bus.

Dad wanted to get off at Biljača, which is halfway between Sase and Bjelovac. Serb forces let us go. That’s it. We’ve been officially deported out of Srebrenica. This is a crime against humanity. Where is the world’s reaction?

Just arrived in Srebrenica. Met with Ibrahim Becirović to talk about starting an amateur radio. Think it would be good for us.

Ibro and I have found a radio made in Japan, called Icom 745. We’re going to turn it on and see what’s happening on the frequencies. See if we can contact other Bosnians still under siege.

Ibro and I have managed to make contacts with our pre-war colleagues on other frequencies. Some are nearby in free Tuzla, others are in besieged Sarajevo. We’re trying to connect people in Srebrenica with their loved ones.

The UN has declared Srebrenica a “safe area”. But we’re not a “protected area”. I’ve been told that there’s a huge difference between these two phrases. A “protected area” would require a large number of UNPROFOR soldiers.
