At the Forestry Office in Han Pijesak. Asking friends and colleagues through Dad’s work about what to do.

Just found out that our good friend and neighbour, Hasan, was slaughtered in front of his house just after we left Bratunac. His family were deported to Tuzla. My parents were in his house just days ago. I feel numb.

Majority of the group think going back to Stoborani is the safest bet, as the road to Olovo passes through Serb villages. I feel like this may have been our last chance of escaping captivity.

Serb colleague claims he knows nothing about what is happening in Vlasenica (from which we were just turned back). Told us we should take the old road to Olovo if we want to leave.

BREAKING: The first victim of “ethnic cleansing” in Vlasenica has been named. Hasan Salahamović was killed with his wife. Witnesses have told Front Slobode that they were killed by the well-known officer Garić, militiaman Born Mijić, and Klještan. Along with the expulsion and liquidation of people, Serb forces also destroyed sacred monuments.

Still don’t feel safe at my aunt’s house. Paramilitary forces pass through the village all day and night.

We’re in the woods listening to Radio Bosnia-Herzegovina thanks to my neighbour’s car. He drove his Zastava 101 into the woods. This is proof not only of his impressive driving skills but also of the insanity that has affected him along with us all.

My village of Kamenica has been partially destroyed. Half of the village has been burned to the ground, all the way to Bakrači where I went to school. We haven’t been able to repel the Serb attack since there are so few of us and we have no weapons. The entire able-bodied have retreated. They’ve been forced through Drinjača, and up Udrč Mountain in the Drina Valley, towards Cerska.
