We have arrived in besieged Sarajevo, as refugees. We will be staying at my uncle’s house.

Dad has driven back to Vlasenica. He’s going to try to calm things down, to convince the Serbs that they don’t need to start a war against us. I’m terrified.

🧵 Today I witnessed my first killing of the war. My wife and I were driving home to Osmače village (Srebrenica). We saw two bodies at the end of the road. I stopped the car.

We have decided to evacuate our village. We need to get as many people out as we can. Men of fighting age will remain.

A group of workers approached me and told me “don’t stop”. They said Bahrudin and Meho had been killed. But I stopped. I looked at Bahrudin and Meho’s bodies. I will never forget that sight.

We’ve left Srebrenica for Gornji Potočari village. Dad thinks we’ll be safer there.

Today I said goodbye to my father as I left Srebrenica. I don’t know when I’ll see him again.

Srebrenica is under attack. I’ve fled. I don’t know when I’ll be back.

BREAKING: a Serb “Territorial Defence” has been mobilised in Bratunac.

Bratunac is falling. All Bosniak police officers have been ordered to hand over their weapons.
